Allergy Test

Sublingual immunotherapy, often called SLIT for short, is an alternative way to treat allergies without injections. It is considered a cutting-edge treatment for those who suffer from allergies.

How It Does It Work?

This type of allergy relief treatment is administered orally through a series of droppers that contain a serum individualized for your specific allergies.

The serum is formulated based on your allergy test results and contains the individual substances to which you’re allergic. Drops are administered under your tongue in order to boost your tolerance to the allergen while simultaneously reducing your symptoms.

Over time, you build immunity and eventually can live allergy-free. This cutting-edge treatment can be administered at home and involves no needles or injections.

Sublingual Immunotherapy Dosing Schedule

The full course of your sublingual immunotherapy can be broken down into five phases. Each phase has its own number of drops and lasts for 90 days.

After phases 1-5, patients enter the 5m stage, which is considered the maintenance stage. The maintenance stage lasts for 6-12 months, depending on the individual patient and the overall severity of the allergies.

Phases 1-5

During the first five phases, apply drops under your tongue every morning after brushing your teeth. Hold for 2 minutes before swallowing, and do not eat or drink for 30 minutes following the dose. The amount of drops you administer varies depending on the week:

  • Week 1: one drop daily
  • Week 2: two drops daily
  • Week 3: three drops daily
  • Week 4: four drops daily

Phase 5m: The Maintenance Stage

After the initial five phases, patients enter the maintenance stage. This involves applying drops in the same manner, but instead of increasing the number of drops incrementally each week, five drops are given each day.

Phase 5m can last for anywhere from 6-12 months. The length varies depending on how severe your allergies are and your body’s response to the treatment.
